INTEGRITY EQUALS SAFETY

Our Philosophy on Davits/Gondolas

Safety

Not just a word carelessly mentioned as a must in the working at height industry but designed into our equipment through the wisdom in international codes and practical end user feedback.

Cost Effective

Understanding is put into the life cycle costs of the property for the building owners: from the upfront system installed, future system maintenance and property cleaning can have large implications on overall cost within a few years of opening.

User Friendly

Ease of use by end users ranging from our own facade cleaners to government facade inspectors and MCST members wanting to do inspection work from outside the building are also weighed.

Did You Know

The European, Singaporean and USA codes state that a permanent platform system (one stored at the property of use) must have a tie back anti-sway system.

Thus High Profile davits must be chosen over Low Profile, where the height from the suspension point to ground is higher than 40m (exceptions: EN 1808 allows up to 60m, if an anemometer is used in combination and OSHA 1910.66 allows up to 300 feet (91.5m) for ground rigging situation but integrated full building height continuous tie-in guides must be provided).

Above 40m vertical travel, the vertical distance of Tie-ins for the system and the wall/facade/structure being accessed should not exceed 20 m according to Singapore and European codes (or 15m in the USA).

Under the Singaporean Façade Access design guide by BCA, a
minimum clear space of 1.5m should be given from the parapet edge (cl. 4.1.3a). The Design for Maintainability checklist of Singapore mentions that: a) 1.8m clear space between M&E equipment and the parapet is required as well as b) 1.5m around solar panels should also be considered (refer B1.5 and B1.6).

Left: High Profile Davit Arms (means gondola can be brought onto roof by swinging the gondola arms – Common Maximum Code height with restraints 150m)

Below: Low Profile Davit Arms (means gondola cannot be brought onto roof as Arms are tall enough – Common Maximum Code height without restraint 40m)

The USA’s ASME 120.1 limits vertical travel to 490 ft (150m) for systems where the hoist for the platform is not located at the roof.

Right: Roof mounted hoist system.

In EN 1808:2015, each person + equipment within the gondola is considered to be a minimum 120kg, so the minimum allowed capacity for a code compliant 2 person gondola is 240kg (CL 6.3.2.1(2)). In the USA however, OSHA 1910.66 and ASME 1201.1 each state that 1 person is considered 250 Lbs (113.6 kg) (@Cl – 1910.66(f)(1)(ii) and 3.2.2 respectively) thus 250kg is clearly a safe minimum capacity for a 2 person gondola.
